a quick run down on how I make my sleds. This takes 5 minutes or less
to make, not counting waiting for the yellow glue to dry. I have made
sleds using CA glue and seems to works fine To start, back a few years ago I ran a bunch of hardwood scrap wood through my planner and drums sander to size that matches the slots of my table saw. Now when ever I need to make a fence I just grab enough to make two runners. I place two runners in the slots of my table saw. I place a tiny bead of yellow glue on the runners, (I don't want the squeeze out to touch my table saw top) Place a piece of plywood down, drill and insert two screws in each runner. I glue on a top fence, this is used to help keep the two sides aligned. I slide the sled back and forth making sure it runs smooth. If not I'll use a shoulder plane or just some sand paper on a square block to sand out the runners a little until everything runs smooth. Next I take a candle stick and run the runners with it to aide in sliding. Next I make a cut being careful not to cut though the top fence, going about 2/3 the way to the back of the sled. I stop the saw and unplug it, move the sled into the blade and use the protractor to find my angle and CA the back fence down. You can see two holes that I drilled for screws which I inserted from underneath. I glue a second back fence down for safety, something to clamp to and to give me something to push on. Thats it, you are done. You'll also notice that I drilled a hole in the top fence so I can hang it from a nail To use I use two small clamps, one two hold a stop block, the other to hold the part that I'm cutting. I use the eraser end on a pencil to hold down small parts when cutting |
